Topsy – social web powered search engine, the next Google?
Topsy is a unique approach taken at building a new kind of search engine which focuses mainly on social media to give you the most relevant search results for your search terms.
When you enter a search term, Topsy searches all social media conversations on sites such as twitter and returns links contained in tweets that match your keyword. The relevance is measured using a combination of the twitterers influence and the number of retweets that the tweet has received.
Since Topsy relies on links shared by twitter users, the results returned are usually fresh and would have a better chance of meeting your requirements.
Quickie
- Social web powered search engine
- Links present in tweets crawled and displayed in search results
- Search results displayed on the influence of a twitter user and the number of retweets received etc.
- Topsy being dependent on social media, the freshest search results are returned

Topsy Says
Topsy is a new kind of search engine, with a new way of looking at the Internet. Topsy doesn’t think the Internet is a collection of documents. Or even a web of documents. Topsy sees the Internet as a stream of conversations. Topsy treats people differently from the webpages they create and the things they say. And Topsy sees that people in every community are connected in a web of relationships, where each person influences other people to read, talk and think about things.
